Restoring the Lancaster Canal from Tewitfield to Kendal

The Lancaster Canal Trust is a waterway society and a registered charity no.1167020. Formed in 1963 by local canal enthusiasts prevent the northern extension of the M6 motorway closing navigation north of Carnforth. The volunteers became the Association For The Restoration of the Lancaster Canal with its aim to reopen the canal from Tewitfield locks to Kendal. The Association later became a registered Charity and finally a Registered Charity Incorporated Organisation.

Boat trips

Enjoy a trip on the scenic northern reaches of the Lancaster Canal, England’s most northerly canal. Open countryside pleasant scenery, wildlife and the Lake District hills in the distance. Waterwitch is a purpose built 28 foot trip boat and licensed for up to 12 passengers.

Get involved

Membership is open to anyone of any age, to families as well as individuals and organisations. Our present membership includes anglers, boaters, naturalists, ramblers and those who simply enjoy walking along the towpath.
