Walked along the canal from Tewitfield to Borwick on 18th May. Saw loads of wildlife. Pair of Canada geese with 4 young, two pairs of swans nesting, a Kingfisher, Yellow Wagtails, ducks with 9 young, loads of butterflies and a dragonfly, our first swallows, lots of tadpoles. A fantastic couple of hours in ther sunshine. No need to go abroad. When is this Northern strtch going to linked again to Kendal?

Just returned fom a cold but mainly sunny week cruising the canal. Congratulations on the standard of the tow path, canal halts and facilities. It was a really lovely canal and I hope to return at some point. You should be very proud of your achievements with this waterway.

We cruised the whole length of the canal as part of Lymm Cruising Club's Summer Cruise. We really enjoyed our time on the canal and found it to be a most beautiful waterway. We cannot wait for the Northern Reaches to be navigable but, in the meantime we will be visiting the "Lanc" again in the not too distant future.

I understand that my maternal Grandfather, Francis Henry Smith, was Goods Manager for the LMS at Kendal during the 20s and 30s, and that he lived in Canal Head House, from where my parents were married in 1932. He retired in 1935 and moved to Bare. Can anyone verify this?

It's been a long time since i cruised the canals.but we are back on the water in may.my first encounter with the canals ,way way back in 1967.at finsleygate marina burnley.i worked for summit boats ltd.in the school holidays.and every spare hour ,was spent messing around on boats.a bit quieter than today, but still commercial traffic on the canal.
really looking forward to getting back on the (CUT).

Hello, Im researching my family history and am keen to find out anything about Aquila and Joseph Needham. Aquila was born in Tewitfield in 1850 and transported coal as "Captain of a canal barge" until his death in 1886. I note that in the new book "Life on the Lancaster Canal" it states he died in 1884 but i cannot confirm this. Joseph, his son, was born on the canal at Lodge Hill, Galgate, and went on to be a Hay & Straw merchant in the canal basin in Preston. Any information would be very welcomed. Thanks
Stuart
