Canal Watch Scheme
PCSO Dave Edwards 7879 of Garstang Police Station, Moss Lane, Garstang is keen to alert boaters to the rising level of crime, particularly to unattended boats, and the opportunity to be involved in the Canal Watch Scheme.
If you wish to report a crime please contact Lancaster communications room 01524 63333, or if a crime is in progress 999. For anything else contact Garstang and Over Wyre Neighbourhood Police Team 01995 607869
The Canal Watch Scheme benefits anyone who resides on the canal or spends time on the canal. It covers the area between Potters Brook at Bay Horse and Station Lane at Barton. Anyone who spends time within this area on boats, or lives in the area or generally and would like to know what is going is welcome to join.
Joining is simple. Either pop into the Police Station on Moss Lane, Garstang or just call the Neighbourhood Police Team Voicemail on 01995 607869 and leave a message. It is completely free and all you need to provide is your name, boat name and a mobile phone number. You will then be added to the Canal Watch database.
Your mobile number will the be used to send you text messages alerting you to any recent crimes. If for example there has been a theft of diesel from a boat in Garstang, you will receive a text message alerting you to this fact and you can make sure that your boat is secure.
CPSO Edwards is planning to have stickers and other signage available to help publicise the scheme, but if you know of other boaters who could benefit, he asks that you let them know of the existence of this scheme.
