Following comments from boaters who arrive at Tewitfield and can find no information about the 14 miles of unrestored canal to Kendal, the Lancaster Canal Trust has designed a new explanatory panel. It will be placed on a stone plinth at the end of the navigable section to inform boaters and other visitors to the canal of the potential for future restoration to Kendal. Using full colour graphics and photos it will show the canal wending it’s way from Tewitfield to Kendal, highlighting all the hurdles which will have to be overcome to reinstate navigation.
The panel is to be formally unveiled by local MP Geraldine Smith at 11.30am on May Day, Saturday 1st May. All are welcome to come and watch the ceremony.
The Trust will also be running a ‘Waterwitch’s Brew’ where tea and coffee are served free (donation appreciated) and will be promoting the IWA’s SOS (Save our System) Campaign.
Come and join us to see how we will restore the canal.
