Removal of Coping Stones from Coal Wharf, Kendal

The Old Coal Wharf adjacent to Change Bridge is mostly in the ownership of Kendal Riverside Developments and when the new K  village complex is completed they are to build some sheltered housing on their old overflow car park and part of the coal wharf.  As a condition of planning they agreed to have the coping stones, which have laid undisturbed ever since closure of the canal, to be removed to a BW depot for safe storage.

When, eventually, when this part of the Canal is restored, it is hoped to reinstate these stones in the immediate vicinity of their original resting place with a suitable notice to remind visitors of their history.  We are grateful to Riverside Development for arranging for their careful removal and below are some pictures of the work in progress
