British Waterways Updated Notice 13th July 2010:
"Due to prolonged period of dry weather and the long range weather forecast predicting no change in the conditions, British Waterways North West will not be taking further bookings from July 5th for the Liverpool and Ribble Canal Links.
We will endeavour to honour existing bookings. However, please be advised that this may be subject to change at short notice.

Boaters may also like to note the planned closure of the the summit section of the Leeds and Liverpool canal:
"Please be aware that passage between Lock 30 Holme Bridge Lock Gargrave & Lock 85 Railway Lock Wigan will not be possible after 2nd August 2010. Please see notice issued on Waterscape 13.07.10 for further details. British Waterways apologises for any inconvenience this may cause."
