Sellet Hall Bridge Rebuild |

Following the generous offer of the loan of two diggers by a local businessman the Trust has decided to use this resource to help rebuild the parapets of the bridge by Sellet Hall. The picture below shows the east parapet of Sellet Hall bridge during the visit of IWA's Restoration Committee in April. As you can see there is alot of vegetation growing both on and out of the parapets which has damage a number of courses of stones.

On the west parapet there is also a large sapling which has seriously undermined the top courses.

Over the weekend of July 31st and August 1st it is planned to use the diggers to remove the top courses of stone and remove the vegetation. The parapets will then be rebuilt to heritage standards using lime mortar. This is probably one of the most complex operations the Trust has undertaken in recent years involving several machines considerable amounts of material, as well as the support of several local landowners and businessmen.
On July 21st a preliminary work party undertook vegetation clearance which will enable the main work to commence. Below are the before and after photos:
