Eighty-six boats were booked in for the annual Waterways Festival at Skipton, although many others were moored nearby and also attended the festival. Visitors came from all over the region. As we gathered names on our petition for the restoration of the Northern Reaches locations recorded included Halifax, Blackpool, Huddersfield, Leeds and Bradford.

The 1940's theme for the event allowed some boaters to really get into the swing and wear period costumes including nurses, factory workers, spivs and military uniforms. Decorated boats picked up on many memories from the period including ration cards, dig for victory, the baby boom and of course the war. (Don't mention the war!)

The weather stayed dry, although a little chilly, for the whole weekend. On the Monday, when we had our stand, the sun shone for most of the day and we chatted to many interested visitors, recruited several new members and sold various items to raise funds.

Dig for victory was the theme for this boat's decoration. There is a boat under there - honest!

One of many miniature scenes recreating 1940's life and events. Others included the dam buster raids and the great escape as well as an effigy of Winnie.

Barbed wire, search lights and an anti-aircraft gun featured on one of the best decorated boats.
