Paul Shaw has been able to rearrange the planned weekend with Waterways Recovery Group (WRG) North West team for a joint working party on the locks at Tewitfield. The last time WRG worked on this section of the Northern Reaches was in 2003/4 when over three week long canal camps they undertook scrub bashing as well as clearing out and rebuilding/repointing the spillways.

Photos from the 2003 camp on the WRG website show that much was achieved on that canal camp at Tewitfield and that next years team will have alot to live up to. (Photos from www.wrg.org.uk)

Unfortunately, nature has a habit of undoing man's best endeavours and this year's combined LCT/WRG NW weekend work party will again be clearing spillways, as well as remove the saplings growing out of the lock walls. Scaffolding is being ordered in preparation and overnight accommodation for the WRG team has again be booked at Warton Village Hall.
If you are not a regular LCT work party member but would like to help restore these structures, please use the Contact Us link and we will make sure you receive details nearer the time. Any assistance is welcome from a couple hours up to a couple of days. Full safety briefings and safety wear will provided appropriate to the tasks assigned.
