Five hardy volunteers turned out for a rather grey day on December 11th including one new member, David Joyner. The first task was to do some maintenance around the benches which were installed earlier in the year. Part of the agreement with British Waterways when they gave permission to place the benches along the towing path was that LCT would keep the vegetation at bay around the benches.

Once that job was done the team headed up to Stainton. A visit was made to Stainton aqueduct to see how the works done in October to underpin the wing wall were standing up to the increased flow in Stainton beck but the water level was so high nothing was visible.

It was decided to start tackling the vegetation in the canal bed in preparation for the more major works planned for summer. Using a brush cutter, loppers and other tools a fairly large patch was fully cleared by the end of the day. David was trained on safe brush cutter operation by Paul while the others hacked, chopped and lopped with hand tools.

Job done!
