Working Parties >>

There have been several problems which could have derailed this project but fortunately we seem to have overcome them and I’m glad to say it will go ahead. The preparatory working party on 3 August cleared the way for the main work. We will be doing the rebuilding of the parapets of the road bridge and tackling the erosion at the aqueduct and related tasks.

More volunteers are welcome to join the working party on any of the 4 days ( Friday 9th to Monday 12th September), but if possible please let Richard Trevitt know if you are coming. If you have already told Richard you are available, but not specifically which days, please let him know as soon as possible. Currently Richard has commitments from enough people from LCT which, with an equally good response from WRG, will ensure the job gets done, but there's always more work to be done if people are available.

WRG will be accommodated at the Borwick & Priest Hutton Memorial Hall. There is room there for some LCT folk too; if you are coming on consecutive days and wish to minimise travel, you can have floor space and 3 meals for £10 per day (or possibly a bit less). You’ll need a sleeping bag and a campbed or mat. Please let Paul Shaw know your requirements in good time.

There's a lot of kit to take from Millness so the first rendezvous is 9am on Friday 9th at Millness, to load the trailer and the boat. If you're arriving later then please go straight to Stainton for a 10am start.

On Sat, Sun & Mon we'll start at 9am at Stainton.

Remember the road over the bridge will be closed, so those approaching from the south, continue north on the A65 about 2 miles past Crooklands Hotel and take left turn to Stainton. There will be a road closed/diversion sign at the junction but take this road anyway. At the road junction beside Stainton Crossing canal bridge go straight ahead through the field gate and park to the right against the wall.

We need to keep the small parking area by the end of the canal clear for materials and equipment, so just the WRG van & LCT trailer in there please.

Location is Stainton Crossing Bridge (Br. No 172) Postcode LA8 0LE, Grid Ref SD 520854

Also – Thurs 8th is the Westmorland Show with our stand in the show and the trip boat running from the back gate and Fri 9th evening is the Kendal Torchlight Procession with the LCT/WRG float promoting canal restoration.
